Ford Focus RS Tuning - Custom ECU RemapsLooking to remap your new Ford Focus RS II? Focus RS remap Why feature this car ? We first saw this car some 18 months ago when we had moved into the industrial in front of where the RS owner worked. Steve had tried to find somewhere that could make software that would make the most of all his planned mods - but was struggling. So we offered our services....... It started at 220 bhp..... Its seems the RS was made good at the factory. 220bhp with a trick DIF to make good progress with the front wheel drive. But Steve had other ideas .... The charge cooler radiator was replaced with a huge item to keep the inlet temps down. This made a huge difference in itself keeping the crisp response during any amout of hard driving. The factory manifold was replaced with an equal length tubular item which was ceramic coated to protect the paintwork on the bonnet. The underside of the bonnet is also mirrored - Steve says this is also to protect the paintwork - Any one who knows Steve will know they are there so he can look at himself everytime he opens the bonnet - We've never know a car that runs out of screen wash so often. The rest of the exhaust was replaced and is now 2.75" in diameter from the turbo backwards - not too loud but will growl quite nicely when on boost. With the manifold and exhaust off it would have been rude not to have sent the turbo to Turbo Technics for them to use some wizardry and make a mental T28hybrid - so that is exactly what happened. Uprated turbo hoses were fitted to prevent bulging or spitting and also for good looks. To improve air flow in a K&N induction kit was fitted which fits neatly under the front bumper sucking plenty of cold air. A Forge FMCL007P recirculating dump valve was fitted, replacing the original Bosch item, to make sure it could handle the boost the new hybrid turbo would deliver. So with the better air flow in and out sorted, and the turbo uprated it was thought a good idea to fit a slightly larger set of injectors. The rest of the engine is good from the factory and very tough - this unit was put together properly and the block and cylinder head can handle plenty of power. So lets make the most of the Mods..... The initial drive was very promising but there was massive overboost and it seemed to cough a little high up in the rev range with a little reluctance to hit the red line - but remember at this point we haven't mapped it. First we needed to rig up the boost gauge and set the actuator so boost was something like acceptable - so we could do some more runs. The custom software was started. It was important for the Programmer to ensure that the mapping would take into account the new fueling requirements for the hybrid turbo right through the rev range. We were also concerned that the standard remap (not done by us) had no proper throttle control and no part throttle tuning what-so-ever. So we also had to completely fix the software. A hard days programming and version 1 was ready for testing ! The Result......
Steve cannot believe how much better the car actually drives now with some good software - like he says " you can't blast everywhere all the time and it needs to drive nicely which it does". Having driven Project Polo GTI on the road with the RS in pursuit we can vouch for how fast this RS is. The Polo with 250bhp was no slouch but the RS can just rush up, sit on your bumper, then just blast past like you are stationery. Totally gob-smaking. Project BMW 330D with almost 600NM or torque delivered instantly is still no match what-so-ever for this monster. What really shows through, though, is the handling and braking abilities of the RS. The RS can take any roads you throw at it with total confidence - like we say this is a true RS. The RS has visited a local rolling road where it achieved an easy 391bhp running just 20psi boost achieving almost 50bhp more than a similarly modded RS running different standard remap software (not ours!). We'd like to get a copy of the printout to show you on here but it was hijacked for an RS hall of fame. RS Standard remap and custom Software Availabilty... We can make software for all your Focus RS 2.016V Turbo needs. We have the M-Flash which is the perfect way for you to run several states of tune and have the ability to check and clear error codes. For a stage 1 ecu remap including the M-Flash hardware the cost is just £499. Custom ECU remap files including the M-Flash cost £750 - depending upon exact modifications. ie. hybrid turbo, exhaust, injectors, etc |
